DECISIONS OF THE

INTERIOR BOARD OF INDIAN APPEALS

Office of Hearings and Appeals Reconnected to the Internet !!
>

After many years, the Office of Hearings and Appeals of the Department of the Interior is reconnected to the internet!

www.ibiadecisions.com was intended only as an interim means of making decisions of the Board of Indian Appeals available during the time there was no official website for the Board. It expanded beyond that original purpose, and existed much longer than anyone expected. However, because the official website is now available, the need for www.ibiadecisions.com has ended, and it will remain online only to redirect visitors to the official websites.

IN MEMORIAM -- JUDGE ANITA VOGT

This website has been brought to you as a public service by former IBIA Administrative Judge Anita Vogt, who believed that it was unconscionable that Tribes and the legal community had no ready access to IBIA decisions after the official website of the Department of the Interior's Office of Hearings and Appeals was disconnected from the internet as the result of a court order. After her retirement from the IBIA, Judge Vogt taught herself everything necessary to develop and maintain this website, and continued it for over three years, even though she never anticipated such an extended need.

Judge Vogt passed away on March 26, 2007, after a short illness brought on by an extremely aggressive form of cancer. Even as she was recovering from surgery and facing the prospect of undergoing chemotherapy, she continued to work on this website, ensuring that the most recent cases sent to her by the IBIA were prepared and posted. She also extracted a promise from her family and friends that they would continue this website until the Office of Hearings and Appeals is able to reconnect to the internet.

If you would like to express condolences to Judge Vogt's family, you may send an email to JudgeAVogt@yahoo.com.

This website continues to be maintained in memory of Administrative Judge Anita S. Vogt. It was last updated November 17, 2008.
